Teddy G. Gibbs

Ted G. Gibbs, 85, of Birmingham, transitioned to his Heavenly Home Friday, October 6, 2023. He was born in Cullman County to Jaffie and Pauline Gibbs. He served in the US Navy from 1956-1959 on the USS Bon Homme Richard. He married Edwina Lankford on June 3, 1960 and they had three children. He began working at Industrial Water Board/City of Birmingham on June 4, 1960 until retiring as supervisor after 30 years. In 1990, they moved to Georgia and he began a new career driving an 18-wheeler for Baxter/Cardinal Health in Lawrenceville. He retired and returned to Alabama in 2003. He served faithfully in every aspect of his life. He was blessed with an incredible mind, superb mechanical skills and an ability to find humor in almost any situation. The most important year of his life was 1965 when he was saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost. From that day forward, he whole-heartedly devoted his life to The Lord, placing an unwavering trust in God. He truly lived the life of a dedicated Believer in Christ Jesus. Study of the Word of God was his whole life, dedicating countless hours of research, and was what he was doing when the Lord said, “It’s suppertime.” He had a living Covenant with God, which was fulfilled at his Homegoing, and a Covenant over his family that is everlasting. He sacrificed his time, comfort and risked his life many times over for his family and to help others and was a man of integrity. His sense of duty, accountability, humor and devotion will remain with all those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Durwood, grandmother, Estelle Bailey, and wife Edwina. He is survived by his sister Bernadine Melvin. His daughters, Lucretia Gibbs, Anita (Dewayne) Glidewell and his son Eric (Kimberlee) Gibbs. His grandchildren, Brandi (Michael) McCloud, Dezi (Corri) Powell, Eric Glidewell, Joshua and Evan Smith. His great-grandchildren, Landon and Kennalee McCloud, Finnick, Brym and Lincon Powell, Juliet and Chandler Glidewell. He was blessed at a second chance at love with his sweetheart companion, Brenda; her children Cindy (De), Julie, Erik (Kim) and Keri (Clete), 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
