John Harold Prickett

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Harold Prickett, on June 25, 2026. John was born on March 31, 1944, to parents, Jay Lester Prickett and Elna Mae Prickett at W.E Baptist Hospital in Birmingham, AL. John was a loving man, with a servant heart. At the age of 19, on November 27, 1963, he married Judy Quick (18). He loved her so very much and on December 26, 1975, they welcomed their son, Robert Jason Prickett into the world. John loved Jason very much and loved to take Jason camping and fishing. John was drafted into service on October 28, 1966. He completed his basic training at Fort Benning, GA and AIT at Fort Jackson, SC. He sailed for Vietnam from Tacoma, WA, stopping to refuel in Okinawa, Japan before continuing to Da Nang, Vietnam. John served bravely in Vietnam for six months as part of the 564 unit of the 4th infantry division, hauling munitions hundreds of miles each day. John was discharged from service on July 1, 1968 after his convoy was ambushed by the North Vietnamese Army and he sustained a severe injury to his right eye due to shrapnel from a sniper bullet. John loved the Lord. He made it known to almost everyone how much he loved the Lord. He was committed to serve the Lord with all his heart. He wrote several notes saying how much he loved the Lord, that he was so grateful to have such a merciful God. In those notes, he made sure to note how much he had been blessed in life. John is survived by his wife, Judy Prickett, his son, Jason Prickett, his daughter-in-law, Pam Prickett, and his grandchildren, Owen, Kate, and Sutton. He is preceded by his parents, Jay Lester and Elna Mae, and his in-laws, Robert and Frances Quick. John loved to watch anything Alabama, especially Alabama football. Although most of his family was not for Alabama, he would still pull for the teams his family pulled for. He loved to sit and watch old western films or HGTV. He loved to travel with Judy, Jason and his grandchildren. They took a trip to the Grand Canyon, but his favorite trip was in 2009 when he was able to take his family to Disney World. He enjoyed getting to see how happy everyone was. That was his favorite thing in life, making sure he saw his family happy. John especially loved his grandchildren. He always made sure to tell others how he loved them and how proud he was of them. He loved to see them happy. He made sure that his grandchildren knew God. John was a good man. There are not enough words to describe how good of a man he was. He was a selfless man. He was a proud man. He loved his wife, his son, his daughter-in-law, and all three of his grandchildren. For his service and burial, we ask that you wear casual attire. John did not want anyone in suits. Visitation starts at 10:00am for the public, and the service starts at 11:00am at Deerfoot Memorial. He will be buried at Alabama National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
