William Robert Tidwell, Sr., Buck, age 82, of Birmingham, Alabama passed in peace at 3:30 PM August 18th, 2019. He was in the presence of his loving family. Buck was born in Birmingham, AL on November 30th, 1936. He graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School and continued to receive a bachelor’s degree in education from University of Alabama-Birmingham. After high school he entered the Army 101st Airborne and stationed in New Jersey for two years. Buck was married to his high school sweetheart, Ginger Tidwell, on March 31, 1961; they were married for 58 years. On January of 1963 and February of 1965 respectively, he welcomed his two sons, who were his pride and joy. Buck was an active member at First Baptist Church of CenterPoint serving as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He also enjoyed taking the church youth on camping and fishing trips at their Horton Farm. You could also find Buck pulling the First Baptist Church Christmas float as he loved a parade. Buck worked as a Tool and Dye Master Machinist for a few companies to include Hardie-Tynes Company, Inc. and Stockham Valves and Fittings for most his life and retired at Self Manufacturing . At age 43 he went back and finished his degree in Education and taught Tool and Dye as well as coached football at Gardendale High School for two years but later went back to his roots as a Master Machinist. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, basketball and football for local recreational parks as well as church leagues at First Baptist Church of CenterPoint. Buck also played slow-pitch softball well into his 50’s with the Birmingham Masters. He was also actively involved in the Center Point Masonic Lodge No. 872 where he cherished the friendships and fellowship and served the community loyally for over 30 years. Buck is survived by wife, Ginger; brothers Pete Tidwell and John (Karen) Milburn; and his children Bill (Tricia) Tidwell and Allen Tidwell and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Audrey Bell Comer and Pinkney Cortez Tidwell. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Visitation will be Friday, August23, 2019 from 5 pm until 7 pm at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 24, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Center Point with burial to follow at 1 pm at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Horton, Alabama. Dr. David Haynes will be officiating.
