Roland Willard Collins

July 18, 1943 - April 23, 2022

Roland W. Collins of Argo, AL passed away Saturday, April 23rd at the age of 78. Roland was born July 18, 1943 and grew up on the west side of Birmingham. He married Janice Ray on September 22, 1962 and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. He made his profession of faith at a young age and was an active member of Argo Christian Fellowship. He excelled in his career as a brick mason, traveling extensively specializing in ceramic welding. Roland enjoyed shooting, frequenting Southern Trap and Skeet, and taught several of his grandchildren to shoot. He was also an avid reader and shared that love with his son and granddaughters. He is preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Ruth Collins and brother Norman. Survivors include his wife, Janice; son Troy (Andrea); daughter Trina (Randy); grandchildren Kristen (Natan), Katelyn (Conner), Tyler (Emilee), Jordan, Carson (Hollie), Tori; and great-grandchildren Ava, Brooks, Kairo, and Sutton; brother Terry and sister Linda. Roland will be best remembered for his beautiful blue eyes, sense of humor and ability not to let a good story be ruined by the facts. He had a wonderful way with animals – his own and everyone else’s. A beloved “Poppy” to his grandchildren, and special to so many others too, he will be greatly missed. Visitation will take place at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville on Wednesday, April 27 from 5:30 -8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place at Deerfoot Memorial in Trussville on Thursday, April 28 at 11:00 am with private graveside service for family only to follow.
