September 28, 1949 - July 16, 2021
Jon V. Coupland, 71 years young, Birmingham, AL flew home with the angels to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of July 16, 2021. Jon being a pilot, we’re sure he was doing the flying too! Jon had so many interesting career paths, his last 12 years spent passionately working as the CFO for Children’s Aid Society of Alabama, relishing in their mission of serving and changing the lives of children and young families. When Jon turned 60, he shed the suit and tie for his proudly displayed pony tail, showing his rebel side we all loved so much. Jon had many extraordinary passions. To name a few, owning several boats that he enjoyed with his friends and pulling his grandchildren on tubes; flying and owning airplanes with his brothers and their families; scuba diving and instructing scuba; thrilling and sometimes scaring his loved ones with many motorcycles and drag racing cars in his younger years; his love of all types of music and so many were lucky to hear him play the guitar so beautifully. Jon’s wife Diane, family and friends were his biggest pleasures. As a very talented photographer, he was the designated photographer for weddings, family reunions and any event where he never missed the perfect shot. Thankfully for us we all have those treasured pictures for our memories and future generations. Many a day on the lake in Charleston were spent with specially loved lifelong friends, Don and Jeannie Klas. Jon and Diane’s faith and their beloved Clearbranch United Methodist Church increasingly became a fundamental part of their daily life spending time with their church family and friends. Jon didn’t miss their group Bible study and loved his early morning routine of reading his Bible while sipping his cherished coffee before leaving for work each day. Jon is survived by his wife Diane of 31 years, older brother Ken (Pam), younger brother Alan (Marilyn) and step-mother Nelda Coupland. Cherished nephews and niece were Tim Coupland (Dawn), Lori Calvert (Glendel) and Chris Coupland and many Great-nieces & nephews; step-son Jay East (Emily), step-daughters Jennifer McCown (Joseph) and Shelley Wall (William). ‘Papa Jon’ as he was called by his six grandchildren provided him hours of laughter with FaceTime calls and chances to get his perfect shots. He now watches over JB, Carleigh, Mason, Madison, Jackson and Jacob as their forever Guardian Angel. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Clearbranch Methodist Church, 8051 Glenn Rd., Trussville, AL 35173; Visitation will be from 10:30AM - 11:30am will Funeral Services will begin at 11:30am with Pastor Vaughn Stafford and Pastor Jeremy Auvil ministering the Lord’s word. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Discretionary Fund at Clearbranch Methodist Church.
