Joel Michael Cochran Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. Joel Michael Cochran, age 70, of Irondale passed away Monday, July 25, 2022 at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital surrounded by family. Mike was born in Gadsden and graduated from Etowah High School in the Class of 1969. He attended Auburn University where he graduated in 1976 and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He worked at many financial institutions over his career until his retirement in 2018 from Synovus Securities. Mike is preceded in death by his parents Robert Joseph and Ila Fred Littlejohn Cochran, daughters Michelle Lee Cochran, Mary Elizabeth Cochran, and Kellie Graham Cochran. Mike leaves behind, to celebrate his life - his wife of 50 years Judy Lee Culpepper Cochran, brother Robert Jeffrey Cochran of Knoxville, his son Joel Robert Cochran (Mollie Lichter) of Moody, his daughter Casey Leigh Shockley (Eli) of Trussville, nephew John Wesley Cochran of Colorado, nieces Courtney Anne Kline (Scott) of Chicago and Allison Kaye Elliott (Dillon) of Knoxville, grandchildren Emma Grace Shockley, Leah Michelle Shockley, and Julian Briggs Cochran, and his lifelong friends, Gary Freeman, Steve Gilbert, John Haggard and Chris Mason, multiple loving cousins and friends. Our family has a special place in our hearts for his caregivers in Hematology and Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, and the Palliative Care Unit at UAB Hospital. We extend a special thanks to Dr. Jack Hassan, Dr. Keith Swetz, Dr. Hunter Bogges, Dr. Pankit Vachhani, and Dr. Jennifer Vigil for their loving care over the last 13 years. Also, special thanks to Vivian Fain Garrett RN for all the Recovery Room Care during his multiple lung surgeries. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 10 AM with service to follow at 11 AM officiated by Rev. Clay Farrington, at Irondale United Methodist Church – 400 Deering St., Irondale, AL 35210. Memorials can be made to Irondale United Methodist Church in his name.
