Janice Thrasher

Janice Baswell Thrasher passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024, surrounded by her family. Janice was born on February 25, 1951 to Thurman and Evelene Baswell in Springville, Alabama. After graduating from Springville High School, Janice moved to Birmingham, where she met the love of her life, Ron Thrasher. Ron and Jan married on February 14, 1976 and spent the remaining 48 years of her life happily married to one another. Jan earned a degree in accounting from Birmingham-Southern College in 1985 and excelled in various roles at accounting firms and multiple non-profit organizations before retiring to spend time with the people she loved most. Jan’s family was her priority. Throughout her life, Jan was inseparably close with her sisters Peggy, Linda, and Sandy and her brother Donald. She cherished every moment with her nieces and nephews, Terry, Steve, and Chris. And above all else, she loved her son Alex and her husband Ron unconditionally. In the last years of her life, Jan’s greatest blessing was the time she shared with her grandchildren Jasper and William. She adored their sweet, funny personalities, which brightened her days. Jan was a beautiful person who will be remembered most of all for her loving and sacrificial heart. She was gentle and quiet-natured, but she fiercely loved and protected those closest to her. Her loyalty and devotion were unmatched and she never ceased to express her love to those she cared about. She was thoughtful, selfless, and nurturing in everything she did. Jan is preceded in death by her father, Thurman Baswell, her mother, Evelene Baswell, her brother, Donald Baswell, her sister Peggy Mauldin (Frank), and her nephew Steve Mauldin. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Thrasher, sisters Linda Barnett (Frank) and Sandra Hodge (Billy), her son Alex (Jill), grandchildren Jasper and William, niece Teresa Black, and nephew Chris Busbin (Leah). Visitation will be held for the public at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Monday, March 4, 2024. A memorial service will be held at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, the Shelby Humane Society, or any other charitable organization of the donor’s choice.
