February 12, 1939 - March 11, 2022
Nez, Mama, MawMaw, Nother Mama and Granmaw. These were the names given to Inez Huddleston Lucas by the people that loved and adored her. Born to Bertha and Alonzo Huddleston on February 12, 1939 near Bessemer Alabama. She attended Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, Alabama where she met her high school bus driver and developed a special friendship. She went on to marry her bus driver, Ralph Lucas on December 31, 1958. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary this past year. At the beginning of their marriage Ralph was in the Air Force and they lived in North Carolina and Arkansas then eventually settled in Birmingham Alabama and began raising a family of 4 children. In 1975 the family moved north and made their home in Springville Alabama for 47 years. She loved Springville and became quickly involved in the community serving as a room mom for her children, a devoted band mom and the queen of fundraising. She was passionately involved with the Springville Community Theater, an active member of First Baptist Church of Springville and eventually became a devoted member of Clearbranch United Methodist Church. She loved Jesus and spent her life living for Him and sharing His word to everyone she met. She was a blessing to everyone who crossed her path. She spent the majority of her life dealing with health issues and in physical pain but that didn’t stop her from sharing her love for Christ with others and living the life of a faithful servant. To know her was to love her and her smile lit up the world. Nez is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ralph Lucas, Sr.; children, Karen Brantley (Robbie), Ralph Lucas, Jr.(Lynn), Diane Logan (Doug) and Steve Lucas (Melanie); grandchildren, Seth Lucas (Suzie), Josh Lucas (Katie), Wes Logan (Riley), Breanna Lucas, and Ally Lucas; great-grandchildren, Carson Lucas, Levi Lucas, Noah Lucas, Bennett Lucas and Magnolia Lucas; brothers, Dan Huddleston, Woody Huddleston, and Steve Huddleston.
