Anna May Barcelona Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Anna May Barcelona was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away at her daughter’s home in Birmingham, Alabama on January 7, 2022. After a very long life, at age 94, she went on to be with Our Lord very peacefully. Anna was a lifelong resident of Gretna and Covington, Louisiana prior to relocating to Birmingham, Alabama in 2018. She was born on February 2, 1927 to the late Dominick Batchelona and Maggie Compagna Batchelona. Her two beloved sisters, Rosalie Batchelona Hunter Kissenger and Nancy Batchelona Ashton also preceded her in death along with her beautiful niece, Patrice Ashton Brewer. Ms. Barcelona is survived by two daughters, Margaret Dick Lefeve (Calvin) and Celeste Dick Prestenbach; one granddaughter, Leslie Lefeve Latiolais (Matt); beloved nephew, Alcide Hunter (Gayle); four great nieces, Ashley Hunter Ard, Alexis Hunter Hartman, Shelby Shawn Fabre, and Miranda Ashton Moring ; one great nephew, William Ashton; and one brother, Dominick Batchelona, Jr. Anna loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious recipes for entrees and desserts for family and friends. Her love for the culinary arts inspired her to compile a cookbook of her own over 45 years ago including new and old family recipes. She dedicated her book, “From Mama’s Kitchen”, to her two loving daughters. She willingly shared her cookbook with family, friends, and acquaintances. Her attention to detail was inspiring for any novice who might attempt their own culinary creation. On her behalf, the family wishes to thank Comfort Care Hospice Nursing for the loving care and respect that was given to Ms. Barcelona during the last year of her life. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Martha’s Catholic Church, 2555 Apollo Avenue, Harvey, LA 70058 on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, LA 70056 at 12 noon.
