Ruby Mae Handley

Ruby Mae (Sauls) Handley, born on January 7, 1936 went to heaven peacefully at her home on the eve of August 19, 2025 after battling Parkinson's and Dementia. Ruby was born in Hokes Bluff, Al and was one of seven siblings. She graduated from Hokes Bluff High School in 1954. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Doug Handley, they moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida in 1959 with two children. Fort Walton Beach became a Christian home where they raised their four children. Mom started a daycare in their home and became well known as "Miss Ruby" for 30 years. Mom was a trusted, caring, patient childcare provider for many children. During these years she was a woman of many talents which included being an accomplished seamstress, a doll maker, an artist and a bird lover. After 40+ years in Fort Walton Beach, Doug and Ruby retired and moved to Bessemer, Alabama where mom found her "dream home." She returned back to taking care of children working part time in several daycares. Several years passed when they downsized and moved to their present residence in Hoover, Al. Ruby's life of 89 years will be celebrated at Hunter Street Baptist Church, Hoover, Al. on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 12pm. Visitation will be at 11:00am. Ruby's great grandson, Ryan VonKanel, will be officiating a 3:30pm graveside service at New Bethel Cemetery, Hokes Bluff, Alabama where our sweet loving mom will be laid to rest waiting to be caught up in the air on the return of Jesus. Ruby is survived by her husband of 70 years, Doug Handley. Their four children, eight grandkids, 15 great grand kids, two great great grandkids, four siblings. Son Greg, married to Jan and their two children Constance and Greg, Jr. Constance, married to Brian Williams. Constance's two children are Dustin Bailey and Greg Bailey. Dustin married to Ashley with their two children LillyAnn and Zachary. Daughter Nancy Hicks, two children Brandy, married to Bruce Shambo. Brandy's children are Shawn, Dannielle, Allanah, Jerry. Brian, married to Natalie, step son Cody and their daughter Peyton. Daughter Kim married to Bruce Blackmon their son Blake. Daughter Teresa VonKanel, widowed, their three children Brent, Ryan, Katie. Brent married to Brittany, children Lilly, Scott, Ruby. Ryan married to Kaylee, their son, Russ. Katie married to Zack Willard, children Harper, Bowen. Sisters, Sarah Speer, Gail Wallingham, brothers Leo Sauls, Jr., Michael Wayne Sauls.
