Rex Terrell Tittle

Love of Family. It was the most important thing in Rex Terrell “Terry” Tittle’s life – bar none. That, along with his devotion to work, are what drove Terry Tittle, as he was known, to excel in life. With a quiet, yet forceful authority, he commanded respect from his friends and family because of his devotion to them. He was the loving husband, father and friend who was always willing to listen to your troubles or lend you a needed helping hand. He had a life filled with love for his family and friends, and will be greatly missed. Who was Terry? First and foremost, he was the quiet one in the family, but everyone respected him greatly. When he did speak, similarly to the famous E.F. Hutton, people listened. Some of Terry’s expressions included, “I ain’t eating grass ‘til that virus is gone.” Translation: no fresh vegetables until there’s a cure for Covid-19. Other colorful words of Terry’s were that he called a TV remote control a gear shift and that of course, a golf tee should be known as a stick! Terry was many things to many people, but some of the highlights were that he was a passionate golfer, lover of old-style country music (think Hank Williams and the Grand Ole Opry of years ago), husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and extremely valuable hardworker. He was a self-employed land developer, and of course, he was a devoted dog lover and owner. His last dog was his beloved, Buttercup. A proud American, Terry was always ready to show his love of country and how proud he was of his two grandsons that are currently serving in our military. Those two grandsons are Mikel Owen Scharf of the United States Air Force and Casey Robert Tittle of the United States Army. Since Terry was close to retiring, he had recently bought a large RV camper. He had planned for he and the love of his life, Carolyn, to start travelling around the U.S. He had only recently turned 73 when he unexpectedly passed on October 2nd. Terry was born August 7, 1947 to the late Era Mae Adkins and Chester Sylvester Tittle. He was the younger brother to the recently deceased Rodney Tittle (Shirley), older brother to Steve Tittle of Argo, and uncle to his deceased niece, Sara Beth Tittle. Terry was blessed to have been part of a loving family. His wife of the last 53 years is Carolyn Putman Tittle. Terry and Carolyn were married in 1966 and enjoyed a wonderfully happy lifetime together that was filled with love and laughter. Terry was truly loved. Here are some tributes from his devoted family: His wife Carolyn said, “Today my high school sweetheart, my best friend and husband of 53 years went to be with our Lord and Savior. Heaven gained a man that truly ‘did it his way.’ I'll see you when my work on earth is done here. I love you always. Love, Me” Christie, his daughter expressed, “I've just lost the most amazing man I'll ever have in my life. He would protect me with his life without the blink of an eye. He loves his family more than anyone can imagine. My sweet dad is my ferocious hero when I need him. My dad is a great man, he's a strong man, and he's the most hard-working and family-loving man. I honestly am having a really hard time accepting that he's gone because I always thought he was invincible.” Terry’s son, Kelly, had this to say about his father, “I lost my hero today! I know he's gone to a better place. I love and miss you already, Pop!!” From his daughter-in-law, Allison Tittle (Kelly’s wife), “Heaven gained a true angel. My second father went to be with you, Lord! I know you are already working hard in heaven getting things ready for the rest of the crew to come and join y’all. We love and miss you already.” Terry’s children and survivors are Christie S. Tittle Beard of Argo, Michael Tittle of Argo, and Kelly and Allison Umphrey Tittle of Springville. His grandchildren are Anthony Grillo, Niki Grillo Chybrzynski (Nick Chybrzynski), Owen Scharf, Casey Tittle, Clay Tittle, Cole Tittle, and Amy Adams Derrick (Scott Derrick). Terry’s great-grandchildren are Eli Grillo and Maci Grillo. He dearly loved all of his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation is Tuesday, Oct 6th from 12:30 pm – 2 pm. The service will begin at 2 pm at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home (5360 Deerfoot Parkway Trussville, AL 35173.) The graveside service will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens (1591 Gadsden Hwy Trussville, AL 35235) and is open to everyone. The family also wishes to thank the following pallbearers for their help in laying Terry to rest. They are: Owen Scharf, Casey Tittle, Clay Tittle, Cole Tittle, Scott Como, and Tim Leach.
