Paul Cosby

Paul Milton Cosby, age 90, of Dora, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 while under the care of Hospice in Dunedin, Florida. He was born on April 29, 1931 in Ashville, Alabama to John and Laura Cosby, where he was one of nine children. Paul served our country in the United States Army for 9 years where he served in the Korean War and then was stationed in Germany. He was a 61 year lifetime member of Local 91 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in which he served two terms of Presidency from 1986-1992. In addition, he was a Member of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Alabama for 55 years. Paul married Betty Ann Cosby (Smith) in 1952 and together, they had five children. Debra, Paul Milton Jr., “Butch”, Timothy “Tim”, Cathy, and Robert. They raised their family in Springville, Arab, and then settled in Sayre. Paul built 3 of his own homes and loved to stay busy. He took pride in gardening and loved to watch things grow. He could always be found tending to his garden where he grew the food that fed his family for years. Paul had many hobbies which included wood working, fishing, and playing the steel guitar. He had a witty personality and loved one liner jokes. He showed no mercy and would set out to destroy any opponent that dared to play him in a game of cards! He was loving, kind, smart, hardworking, funny, honest, and all the things everyone should strive to be. He was an exemplary role model for his children and grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his son Paul Milton “Butch” Cosby, Jr., wife Betty Ann Cosby, son Robert Wayne Cosby, sisters Marie Glidewell, Lora Kaetz, Oma Laberte, Edna Alosi, brothers John Cosby, Ward Cosby, Jack Cosby, and Charles ”Gene” Cosby, and grandson John Paul Cosby. He is survived by daughter Debra Cosby of Oldsmar, Florida, daughter Cathy Chappell of Leeds, Alabama, and son Timothy “Tim” Cosby (Kristy) of Springville, Alabama. Grandchildren Kelly Robertson (Bruce), Leah Kelly (Lamar), Patrick Cosby (Angela), Timothy “Tim” P. Cosby (Valerie), Susan Isbell, and Matthew Chappell (Karina). Great Grandchildren Jacob Robertson, Catelynn Robertson, Alyssa Cosby, Kora Kelly, Copeland Kelly, Liam Kelly, Maya Cosby, Layla Cosby, Zane Cosby, Ty Cosby, Ryne Cosby, and Haylee Isbell, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life was held at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, Alabama on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 2:00 pm. The family would like to thank everyone that was able to attend the service.
