Nolin Howard Newman, Jr., age 76 passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. A Legacy of Kindness Howard was known for his unwavering generosity and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether he knew them personally or they were a friend of a friend, Howard extended his hand in assistance without hesitation. His acts of kindness touched many lives, creating a legacy of compassion and selflessness. Family and Loved Ones Howard cherished his family deeply. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Minnie Lou Mason (Clarence E.); parents, Nolin Howard Newman, Sr., and Wanda Beard Newman; parents-in law, Starling H. and Nell Davis; Brother-in-law, Ronnie Davis; great nephew Thomas Hill; great grand nephew, Chad Bodine. Howard is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Sonja Davis Newman; son Nolin Howard Newman, III–Trey (Jessica); grandchildren, Harrison Newman (Cameron), Olivia, Carson and Anderson Newman; sisters, Wanda Hosey and Cindy Mitchell (Richie). Brother-in law, Tyrone Davis (Mary), sister-in-law, Rita Davis. Nieces and nephews, Phillip Hosey (Buffy), Bryan Hosey (Brittany), Grayson Hill (Charlie), Pam Redden (Tim); Brenda Davis (Jeff), Karen Kale, Tim Anders (Carmen), Jeff Davis (Michelle), Jason Davis (Lidia), Donna Isbell (Sammy) as well as a host of great nieces and nephews. Celebrating Howard’s Life Howard’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and community. His commitment to helping others, regardless of their circumstances, has left a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we remember Howard, we celebrate his life and the countless ways he made the world a better place. Howard lived a life of service to humanity. Howard became a Master Mason at Wahoma Lodge #763 in 1982 and then a member of Zamora Shrine Center. Howard was a member of the “World Famous, Zamora Dune Buggy Unit, and one of the Founding Members of the Legends Unit. He also served in a variety of positions at Zamora under several Potentates. He was President and Chief Judge for DASMC and SASMAC; served as Director and Drill Captain for the Dune Buggy and Legend Units; Membership Chair and Top 10 Shiner of the Year multiple times. He was also a member of the Oder of the Quetzalcoatl. As a Shriner, he loved volunteering and raising money for the Shriners Hospital for Children. A favorite event was working at the Talladega Raceway, where he was famous for driving the wheelchair golf cart. Howard was Red Cross Volunteer of the Year and a Hospice Volunteer. After a 35 year career with Sears, Howard retired and was well known for supplying and servicing washers, dryers and any other appliances for family, friends and people in need. His legacy of love and generosity will continue to inspire those who carry his memory in their hearts.
