John David Nash

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John David Nash. Johnny was 71 years old when he passed away in his home in Remlap, Alabama, while surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 3, 1953 and died on December 7, 2024. Johnny was born in Birmingham, Alabama where he lived all of his life. He is preceded in death by his mother Elsie Nash, father Fred Nash, brother Freddy Nash, mother-in-law Barbara Hood, father-in-law Lloyd Hood, and both brother-in-laws Dwayne Hood and Warren Burttram. He is survived in death by his dear wife Debbie Nash, children Jenni (Craig), Lori (Bob), and Andy (Charlie), grandchildren Haylee (Garrett), Allie, and Luke, his sister Freida Burttram, sister in law Cyndi (Rodney), and a slew of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Johnny or Pappy to most lived a fulfilling and wonderful life. He was a pilot who flew private and commercial for 50 years. He enjoyed golfing, flying airplanes, and being surrounded by his family and friends. Johnny experienced many things in his life but nothing made him happier than being with those he loved or sitting on his front porch with a “nip” while watching the cars go by. He was accompanied in life by his wonderful wife Debbie with whom he spent 55 years with. She was the love of his life and he was hers. He once said that God created them to be together because he knew that no one else could put up with him the way that she did. Together they created so many memories that will forever be remembered. They traveled together, raised a family together, and most of all stuck together through every season of life. While he enjoyed golfing at Cumberland Lake as a hobby, it was more about the people he was surrounded by when doing it. He loved to sit back, joke with his friends, talk about families, have a cold beer, and enjoy the company while playing a round. He was a family man. He invited everyone into his home or into a friendship with open arms. He adopted so many of his friends, his children’s friends, his grandchildren’s friends and so many others as his own family. Johnny was happy, he was content with the life he lived. A few months before his passing he said “I’ve done everything that I ever wanted to do. I’ve flown the best airplanes in the world. I’ve traveled all over. I have a great family and everyone is happy and healthy.” Johnny lived his life the best way he knew how and he was proud of each and every accomplishment, but most of all he was proud of his family. While he will be greatly missed by so many, we seek comfort in knowing that he is now resting peacefully, fully healed, and reunited with so many that have gone before him. If there was anything that he would want everyone to carry with them in life it would be to make the memories, have fun, and to remember that whatever happens, “it doesn’t make you a bad guy.” May everyone celebrate and not mourn his life in a way that they see fit because there was nothing he loved more than a party with those he loved. An infomal gathering for friends to share memories and stories will be at Cumberland Lake Golf Course on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 5pm until 7pm. But until then, sit on the porch, reminisce on the memories, or have a cold one in honor of Johnny (Pappy) Nash.
