James Albert Farmer

James Albert "Bert/Grampy" Farmer, age 75, went to be with the Lord on April 29th, 2026. Bert was a resident of Trussville, AL from 2017 until 2025, when he moved to Gallatin, TN. He also lived in Memphis, TN, Charlotte, NC, Ridgeland, MS, and Charleston, MO. Bert was born to Jesse and Jane Farmer of Charleston, MO on November 12, 1950. He graduated from Charleston High School and then went on to Lambuth College, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business. After graduation, he worked for International Harvester Credit Corporation until 1985 and then worked for Chrysler Financial and TD Auto Finance until his retirement in 2015. After his retirement, Bert and Sue moved from Ridgeland, MS to Trussville, AL to be closer to Jeff, Catie, and Jill and the six grandchildren. Bert is survived by his son, Jeff Farmer of Trussville, AL, wife Wendy, and children Jack and Atley; daughter Catie Hastings of Gallatin, TN, husband Clark, and children Gavin and Lawson; and daughter Jill White of McDonough, GA, husband Levi, and children Owen and Leila. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue M. Farmer; his parents, Jesse and Jane Farmer; and his sister, Mary Jane Bush. Bert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, married to Sue M. Farmer from January 12, 1974, until her death in 2019. He loved his family more than anything. He tolerated Sue dragging him on camping trips with the family and many summer vacations that included driving to Toronto, Canada and Provo, Utah. He definitely loved going to Navarre Beach with all of the grandkids once they were born. He was a sports nut and loved watching his kids and grandkids play soccer, football, volleyball, and cheer. Dad also loved traveling with Sue. From business trips to Mexico and New York City to visiting grandkids in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia, they were on the road a lot. After his retirement, they would drive down to Apalachicola just to eat oysters, or travel to the Smoky Mountains for a quick getaway. There is so much more to our father that cannot be expressed in just a few short words. His love and devotion for his family, and others was never questioned. For example a group of Jeff's high school friends, when they learned of Bert's passing, said he was "definitely a legend." He truly was a legendary father, husband, grandfather, and friend, and he will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home, Trussville, AL on May 8, 2026. Visitation will start at 1:00 P.M. and a service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Graveside service at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church (7500 Roper Road, Trussville) cemetery will immediately follow the service.
