Beverly Smyly Lloyd

Beverly Smyly Lloyd, beloved Christian wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on July 21, 2017. She leaves behind her husband, Thomas W. Lloyd, son Philip Michael Lloyd, daughter Rachael Lloyd Garrett, son-in-law Jeremy Garrett, and two grandchildren, Clara Faith Garrett, and Elijah Thomas Garrett. Beverly was a faithful and loving wife of 38 years, and loved by both sides of their families. She was also dearly loved by her two sisters, Sybil Smitherman (Stevie) and Linda Erickson (Steve), and their families, as well as her husbands four siblings, Judy Barrett (Ken), David Lloyd (Carol), Russell Lloyd (Diana) and Jay Lloyd (Beth) and their families. Beverly was born and raised in Selma, Alabama, graduated from Selma High, received her B.A. from Birmingham Southern, did graduate work during her teaching assistantships at Auburn University, and later received a Masters in Education from University of Alabama in Birmingham. Beverly Lloyd was an excellent and popular teacher of English, Drama, and Gifted English. She also used her remarkable teaching and drama gifts in the community as a Board Member of ACTA in Trussville. She taught for many years in a Christian school while her two children were growing up, and later at various public schools, ending her career at North Jefferson Middle School until her health conditions forced her to retire early. Beverly had a keen and insightful sense of humor, a kind heart, and a determined faith in Jesus Christ. She was well known in the Birmingham Tres Dias Community where she had served actively for many years. She was also involved in the Women’s Community Bible Study in Trussville, and in the many churches where she and her husband had attended and served, including Huffman Assembly,(eventually Cathedral of the Cross), Metro Church, Argo Prebyterian (now Argo Christian Fellowship), Church of the Highlands, and First Presbyterian Church of Trussville . In many of these churches, Beverly also enjoyed volunteering to work in the nursery. She had a special tender love for newborns, and having two grandchildren was one of the greatest pleasures of her life. That great pleasure, and her quiet love for her whole family, describe her heart. Memorial service will be on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Metropolitan Church of God in Birmingham, Alabama.
