Louis Graham Mayo, Jr.

Louis G. Mayo Jr. was born on August 18, 1943 to Lewis G. Mayo Sr. and Kathleen Mayo in Newbern, North Carolina. The oldest of four siblings, Sarah, Herbol, and Jackie, Louis grew up on the North Carolina coast and later enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school. Promptly shipped off to serve in the Vietnam War at Tan Son Nhut AFB in Saigon, South Vietnam, Louis proudly served his country as an aircraft mechanic. After coming home from the war, he worked for Lockheed in Marietta before starting a career with Norfolk Southern RailRoad until his retirement in (1993). Louis was a member of the Center Point Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Temple, and Zamora Shrine in Alabama. He was the proud father of Misty Michelle Mayo Scott (Chris) and Louis “Graham” Mayo III (Kellie Andreson) . He was married for 29 happy years to Shirley Annette McQueen Mayo, of Pinson, AL, from April 17, 1993 until her death December 14, 2021. He was also a Bonus Dad for Donald Harvey “Bo” McQueen Jr (Donza) and Kimberly McQueen Reeves (Albert). His grandchildren include Alexandra Yasko Bush (Tye) of Carrolton, GA, Sarah Samantha Yasko of Hono lulu, HI, Darby Kathryn McQueen-Dever (Tyler) of Alexandria, VA, Brittany Jewel McQueen of Huntsville, AL, Kristopher McQueen (Jessica) of Huntsville, AL, Jessica Senatro of Fayetteville, GA, Haylee Scott of Griffin, GA, Laydon Mayo and Peyton Mayo of Griffin, GA. He leaves behind a very dear special friend Belinda Jane Campbell, of West Point, Georgia, as well as a vast host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Mayo Sr and Kathleen Mayo, as well as his beloved baby brother, Jackie Mayo. He is survived by siblings Sarah Blackburn (Sonny) and Herbol Mayo of New Bern, North Carolina. Known to his family as Louis, Daddy, Grandaddy, Pawpaw Louis, and Daddy’s Daddy, he was loved by all. His sense of humor, his mischievous nature, his devotion to his family and to his country will be missed by all. He was a Master Mason in the Center Point Masonic Lodge, being raised at the Fraternal Lodge No. 37 in McDonough, Georgia on June 16, 1976. He was particularly passionate about his service to Zamora Shrine and support of the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. He served for many years along with his bride Shirley in the RoadRunners club, transporting children back and forth to various Shrine Hospitals. He was also a member of the Directors Staff and the Vagabonds. He leaves behind many dear friends from that time. Funeral Services will be Friday, December 29, 2023 at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville AL. Visitation is 9am-11am, Masonic Rite Service to begin at 11am, with interment with military honors at Alabama Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Montevallo, AL at 2pm.
